Senior Mobile Developer (Equity-Based, Partner)
Octopii Social
seattle, wa
Compensation: 125.000 - 150.000

About the Company

Direct message the job poster from Octopii Social

The world is changing, fast, and we're going to need a social network which rises to the occasion — Octopii is that social network — and we need your help to build it!

In development for 15 months, and just weeks away from a 1.0 launch, Octopii Social is well-positioned to source a VC seed round, while simultaneously establishing traction with our first GA users — it’s an exciting time to come aboard, and we can’t wait to share our outstanding accomplishments with you!

At this time we are in search of our first Equity Partner — a superb Senior Mobile Developer to primarily fulfill IC responsibilities, with potential to mentor early-career developers. You’ll be responsible for iterating upon our current groundbreaking feature set, developing innovative net-new features, and ensuring service health for our users as we scale to greater and ever-greater heights.

We aren’t just in search of a superb developer; we’re in search of an individual who is yearning to put their effortless mastery of hard skills towards a worthy cause — a meaningful expression of the thousands of hours you’ve put towards becoming you.

This is a real opportunity to make the world a better place, and you’ll have a significant stake in its success. At Octopii we understand the best deserve the best, and we want you to catch the bug of real ownership — and real reward.

We will look to you to own features and set an example for the rest of the development team, encouraging open and consistent communication, strong collaboration, and employing and maintaining development best practices.

Company Description

Social media used to be about finding new friends, maintaining the relationships you already had, and making the world feel a little bit smaller — and hopefully, kinder. It also endeavored to give every individual with an internet connection the opportunity to share what’s happening in their corner of the world, directly from those experiencing it. Somewhere along the way, things got off track. Octopii is a return to those promises — but better. A lot better.

At Octopii you will redefine what the internet can do for humanity, on an interpersonal basis, and society as a whole. We believe this mission to be rarified, a truly unique opportunity to guide the world towards a comeback from a social media ecosphere gone awry — while simultaneously developing a never-before-seen social app UX with never-before-conceived features in the backlog. You’ll build the future of the world, of humanity, every single day.

Octopii is a true startup story, comprised of just a few passionate individuals — no outside influence, no corporate backing, completely uninhibited. Big things have small beginnings, and we’re passing through that inflection point now — come and join us.

Role Overview

This is a partner-grade equity-based role for a Senior Mobile App Developer — competitive compensation upon VC funding and/or consistent revenue stream. The individual in this role will work on implementing advanced frontend solutions, developing back-end architecture, and optimizing the performance of scalable mobile applications.

Responsibilities will include collaborating with the CTO and CPO to bring the vision of Octopii to life, troubleshooting technical challenges, and contributing to the development of pioneering features that align with Octopii's mission. You will have the opportunity to make a lasting and meaningful impact to the world through eloquent and robust technical contributions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years technical engineering experience (social network development a major plus)
  • 3+ years in mobile application development (utilizing an assortment of sensor datatypes is a plus)
  • Proficiency in REST API development, ensuring secure and scalable communication between systems
  • Proven ability to maintain high-availability systems
  • Superb collaboration skills, a kind disposition with excellent soft-skills
  • No egos — emotional intelligence and conscientiousness are core to our culture
  • Passion for improving the world through technology

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years in mobile application development (iOS + Android)
  • Experience with Azure + MongoDB
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code
  • Experience with CI/CD build and release pipelines
  • Experience implementing up-to-date cryptographic methods
  • Experience with service telemetry + user analytics
  • Flutter / Dart
  • Node.js
  • Express.js
  • Redis
  • MongoDB

Compensation

Equity will be determined bidirectionally following a trial period in which you have an opportunity to demonstrate your hard-skills and overall presence brought to the team. As a true startup story, we're a "scrappy" team of high performers — but we’re maturing quickly. We want you to be a big part of that maturation. An extraordinary candidate may command mid single digit ownership.

Despite this initially being an equity-based role, it is full-time position — moonlighting is not preferable, although for the right candidate it will be considered. We’re on the eve of launch, and will require your full faculties with on-call responsibilities.

Additional Information

Don’t have all the qualifications? That is expected and we encourage you to still apply! Please share any projects you’ve contributed to on GitHub, or the products you’ve developed at previous companies. We are looking for lesser-experienced developers as well (also equity-based).

We can't wait to hear from you!

(Note: We are investigating an issue in which we may not be receiving all applications — if you are a particularly good match and did not receive a request for interview, please reach out directly to with your information.)
