General Practice Competencies

American Wood Fibers (AWF) is a manufacturer of both consumer and industrial products that are sold to multiple manufacturers as well as pet, agricultural, and home-heating markets. AWF is comprised of 450+ employees and holds operations at 11 locations, generating over $100M in annual sales revenue. We are currently seeking a candidate for the 2nd Shift Production Supervisor role in our Jessup, MD facility.

JOB SUMMARY

The primary duties include:

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

SAFETY

  • Be an active participant in the safety committee and promotes safety on a daily basis
  • Be responsible for safety, cleanliness, and good housekeeping of entire plant
  • Conduct or assist in regular safety meetings on a monthly basis or as needed

PRODUCTION

  • Supervise and coordinate activities of plant employees
  • Train and assist employees in completing assignments according to proper plant procedures
  • Analyze shift duties to determine correct amount of time and material required to complete orders in the most efficient manner
  • Give instructions to employees regarding jobs to be completed and the proper method in which to complete them
  • Supervise plant for cleanliness, safety, quality control, and optimum production
  • Confer with other supervisors and communicate with peers, subordinates, and management in a professional manner to assure assignments are being properly completed
  • Carry out inspections and assist in building and machinery repairs in order to ensure a safe and well-maintained work environment
  • Conduct weekly employee meetings
  • Establish personal goals with fellow employees towards continuous improvement and teamwork
  • Operate mobile equipment as needed safely and efficiently, including forklift, front-end loader, and yard jockey/trailer combination
  • Complete and distribute a daily shift report to include production quantities, operator attendance notes, machine downtime, safety issues, and housekeeping notes

SHIPPING AND RECEIVING

  • Supervise loading and unloading of trucks and completion of paperwork
  • Verify incoming shipments
  • Notifies Transportation Supervisor of changes to inventory stored in trailers
  • Assist as required with monthly inventory counts

EVALUATIONS

  • Complete and present performance evaluations for shift employees
  • Recommend promotions or transfers of personnel
  • Verify accuracy of time cards for payroll
  • Monitor attendance of subordinates as well as compliance to plant rules
  • Recommend and implement disciplinary action as required

QUALITY

  • Maintain and verify that all current quality assurance measures are being followed and communicated to production employees, office personnel and customers
  • Assist in the design and implementation of new procedures as needed
  • Conduct and records daily quality testing of production items to ensure quality product is being produced and shipped

OTHER

  • Attend and participate in scheduled plant meetings
  • Be alert to those around you, including peers, reporting personnel, customers, competitors; learning as you listen and observe
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of HS diploma or G.E.D.
  • Prior supervisory experience REQUIRED; experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Machine operation requires repetitive motions including twisting, bending, and lifting 20-40lbs, 5-6x a minute
  • Must be able to stand continuously for 8-10 hr shifts
  • Experience with forklift, front-end loader, yard jockey/trailer PREFERRED


COMPENSATION : $26.50 an hour

  • Monday to Thursday, additional days as needed
