Summary:

The Travel Cath Lab RN provides specialized care for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and interventional treatments. Working closely with cardiologists and cath lab teams, this role requires advanced cardiac care skills, cardiac catheterization skills, strong communication, and the ability to adapt quickly while maintaining strict safety and regulatory standards.

Essential Work Functions:
  • Conduct assessment of patients prior to procedures, including reviewing medical history and performing physical exams
  • Assist in positioning patients correctly for the procedure and ensure EKG electrodes and cardiac leads are properly placed
  • Assist physicians during procedures, including the placement of catheters, wires, balloons, stents, structural heart devices, and other cardiac interventions
  • Operate and monitor hemodynamic equipment, recognizing and responding to changes in cardiac rhythms and hemodynamic waveforms
  • Assist in arterial and/or venous sheath removal using closure devices, manual pressure, or mechanical compression, and transport patients to the appropriate recovery area
  • Monitor vital signs, ECG, and hemodynamic parameters during cardiac catheterization and interventional procedure
  • Support post-procedure care, including monitoring patient recovery and ensuring a smooth transition to the next phase of care
  • Maintain and troubleshoot cath lab equipment, ensuring everything is functioning properly and fully stocked for procedures
  • Communicate effectively with team members, patients, families, and physicians to provide seamless care
  • Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice

14300 Schukar is an intimate acute medicine unit with a bed capacity of 13 adult patients. Our nurses specialize in the care of patients with a full range of complex medical conditions including renal, endocrine, neurological, GI/GU, pulmonary, infectious disease, and cardiology conditions. Our nursing team works together to provide our patients excellent care alongside our multidisciplinary team of physicians, social workers, case managers, dieticians, therapists, and pharmacists. Our unit is led by a clinical manager, assistant nurse managers and team lead charge nurses.

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.
Responsibilities
  • Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.

    The Cardiac stepdown division (7200) supports the care continuum for post-surgical cardiac patients. The team provides specialized acute care in a fast-paced environment. It is recognized as a Center of Excellence by the Joint Commission for left ventricular assist device implantation and management and care of the patient after heart transplantation surgery. Nurses in this environment possess strong critical thinking skills and are able to make autonomous decisions. Nurses also have the opportunity to be involved in the patient's progress from the immediate post-op period all the way through discharge.
