SUMMARY

The Working Project Superintendent is a hands-on field leader responsible for supervising daily jobsite operations while also performing skilled work as needed. This position coordinates company crews, subcontractors, suppliers, inspections, safety requirements, schedules, quality control, and field documentation to ensure each project is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with plans, specifications, applicable codes, OSHA requirements, and company standards.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

4.      Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily field operations, including manpower, equipment, material deliveries, site logistics, work sequencing, and jobsite access.

5.      Maintain project schedule progress, identify delays or conflicts early, and communicate corrective-action recommendations to the Construction Manager or Project Manager.

6.      Promote, enforce, and document jobsite safety practices, including OSHA compliance, company safety policies, fall protection, PPE, equipment safety, hazard correction, toolbox talks, and incident reporting.

7.      Maintain quality control by inspecting work in progress, confirming compliance with contract documents, and correcting deficiencies before work is covered or completed.

8.      Coordinate inspections, testing, punch-list items, closeout activities, and owner or design-team field reviews as required.

9.      Maintain accurate daily reports, jobsite photos, time records, material tickets, safety records, delivery logs, and other required field documentation.

10.  Communicate professionally with owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, suppliers, supervisors, and employees.

11.  Identify field conflicts, design questions, missing information, and potential change conditions; promptly notify management and assist with RFIs, solutions, and documentation.

12.  Protect company interests by avoiding unauthorized commitments, directing questions about contract changes to management, and maintaining complete records of jobsite conditions.

13.  Maintain an organized, secure, and clean jobsite; ensure good housekeeping practices are observed and maintained.

14.  Demonstrate working knowledge of carpentry, structural steel, pre-engineered metal building systems, foundations, building layout, and general commercial construction practices.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Complete duties as directed by the Construction Manager, Project Manager, President, or other authorized company representative.
  2. Assist with estimating input, constructability review, sequencing, material takeoffs, and field planning when requested.

The job? Overseeing the total pre-engineered construction effort so that each project is built to design, budget, schedule, and quality standards - from award through closeout.

YOUR PRIORITIES WILL BE:

Project Management: It is the job title after all. Own assigned PEMB projects from award through closeout - design, scope, budget, schedule, and quality.

  PEMB Expertise: Serve as the division's pre-engineered “Master Builder,” and lend that knowledge to other project teams when their work includes a Butler portion. Be the go-between for connecting Butler and project teams.

  Financial Performance: Protect Client and Company interests by managing budgets, buyout, change orders, and billing, and keeping your projects profitable.

DAY TO DAY YOU WILL

Oversee Projects:

Scope Development & Buyout

Financial Management

  • Manage budgets, purchase orders, change orders, and invoicing to protect Company and Division interests.
  • Track costs and profitability, report variances, and recommend corrective action.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Keep project files complete and current.

Client Relationships & Business Development

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related field is strongly preferred but not required. Sufficient experience may be substituted for educational background.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience.
Experience overseeing large commercial and/or industrial projects.
Strong experience with federal, state, regional, and local laws and regulations related to the construction industry.
COMPUTER & TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: Proficient with Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams).
Proficient with PC, cell phone, and Company communication tools (e.g., e-mail, internet, etc.).
Proficient with training management software and safety compliance systems (e.g., Hammertech).
Smartsheet experience is a plus but not required (training will be provided).
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES: Must be willing and able to obtain OSHA 500 and First Aid Certified within the first month.
Must be willing to study and work towards obtaining the Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST).
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to receive instruction and supervision.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred but not required.

Able to perform work at elevations in excess of 30 feet.
Able to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Exposure to outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions.
Travel required to multiple project locations. Must be able to be insured on Company’s insurance policy as a driver for the Company.
Must wear required PPE at all times (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, harness, etc.).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Extensive travel by air, and vehicle. Significant work at construction jobsites, during all stages and phases, and in all types of weather conditions.
Varies between an indoor office/jobsite trailer environment with a controlled climate atmosphere and an outdoor construction jobsite atmosphere with all types of weather, loud noise, and dangerous materials. Sometimes a manufacturing or outside, public environment. Employees can be faced with working in extreme temperatures, hazards from things like lasers or welding arc, or other environmental hazards, especially those consistent with construction job sites.
