Staff Accountant
Ghost
Los Angeles, CA

Staff Accountant

Ghost is an inventory distribution platform and operating system for modern retail trade. We partner with the world's best brands to help them understand the true value of their inventory and route it to the right destinations globally. About the Role

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join Ghost's Finance & Accounting team at a pivotal stage of growth. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, you will own core day-to-day accounting operations for a high-velocity, inventory-intensive marketplace: accounts receivable and payable, bank reconciliations, month-end close deliverables, and inventory accounting support.

This is a hands-on role with meaningful ownership from day one. You will work directly with the Director of Accounting as Ghost builds durable accounting systems, prepares for its first external financial audit, and scales its reporting infrastructure. This is an opportunity to take on increasing responsibility across the full accounting function inside a venture-backed company.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable

  • Own end-to-end invoice processing for customers and vendors; maintain organized supporting documentation in the invoice management system
  • Manage AR aging and collections follow-up, driving resolution directly with customers and escalating only complex accounts to the Director of Accounting
  • Own the reconciliation of DTC sales channels (including Shopify, TikTok Shop, Whatnot, StockX, and other marketplaces), ensuring sales, fees, refunds, chargebacks, and deposits are accurately reconciled while partnering with internal teams to investigate and resolve accounts receivable discrepancies
  • Own the end-to-end accounts payable process, including entering vendor bills into ERP system, maintaining complete supporting documentation, and ensuring transactions are accurately recorded
  • Perform and document three-way matching (PO, receiving documentation, and vendor invoice) where applicable, investigate discrepancies, and resolve exceptions prior to payment
  • Run vendor payment cycles, enforce disbursement controls, and ensure payments are processed in accordance with delegated approval authority
  • Maintain vendor and customer master records, ensuring appropriate documentation, tax forms, payment instructions, and banking information are accurate and up to date

General Ledger & Month-End Close

  • Lead monthly closing activities by preparing schedules, reviewing account activity, and helping ensure timely completion of financial reporting tasks
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger by recording and reviewing financial transactions with a high degree of accuracy
  • Prepare and post journal entries related to routine and non-routine accounting activity, supported by appropriate documentation
  • Perform detailed reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies until they are fully resolved
  • Complete bank reconciliations on a regular basis and follow up on outstanding items to keep cash records current

Inventory & Reconciliations

  • Support inventory accounting by ensuring inventory transactions, costing, and inventory movements are accurately recorded and reconciled between operational systems and the general ledger
  • Perform physical-to-system inventory reconciliations; investigate variances and propose resolutions to the Senior Manager of Accounting

Analysis, Audit & Process Support

  • Assist in analyzing financial data and account fluctuations to identify variances, trends, and items requiring further review
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to gather accounting information, clarify transaction details, and support reporting needs
  • Prepare audit-ready workpapers and supporting schedules for Ghost's first external financial audit; field auditor requests for assigned areas
  • Help document and improve internal controls and accounting policies; identify and resolve data mismatches across systems proactively
  • Contribute to monthly management reporting and special projects for the Director of Accounting and CFO

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite as a primary accounting system
  • Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills; comfortable working with large transaction datasets
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organization; able to manage competing deadlines during close
  • AI-native: comfortable using AI tools daily to accelerate reconciliations, analysis, and documentation, and actively looks to automate manual work
  • Proactive and self-directed; take end-to-end ownership of assigned areas and escalate with proposed solutions, not just problems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Strong Plus

  • CPA in progress or completed
  • Inventory, e-commerce, or marketplace accounting experience, including item-level or high-SKU environments
  • Experience with Rillet or other modern, AI-native accounting platforms
