We are seeking a Cloud Optimization Architect to lead the financial and technical evolution of our Azure ecosystem. This is a senior-level technical role focused on the intersection of high-performance engineering and cloud financial accountability. You will be the primary architect responsible for ensuring our $1M+ annual Azure spend is optimized for maximum value through Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), automated governance, and data-driven FinOps practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Cloud Financial Operations (FinOps) & Optimization

  • Commitment Management: Proactively manage the lifecycle of Azure Reservations and Savings Plans to maximize ROI and coverage.
  • Data Visualization: Develop and maintain automated Power BI dashboards and "Showback/Chargeback" reports to provide stakeholders with granular visibility into spend.

  • Continuous Improvement: Lead monthly "Optimization Reviews" with application owners to identify and execute rightsizing opportunities for underutilized resources.
  • Databricks Efficiency: Design and support Azure Databricks environments with a strict focus on cost-efficiency, implementing Auto-termination, Spot Instance policies, and Unity Catalog governance.

Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) & Automation

  • Architectural Standards: Build and maintain Azure reference architectures delivered exclusively via Terraform and/or Bicep.
  • Shift-Left Costing: Integrate cost-estimation tools (e.g., Infracost) directly into CI/CD pipelines to provide visibility into the financial impact of code changes before deployment.
  • Automated Remediation: Build automated workflows to detect and remediate "zombie" resources (unattached disks, idle Load Balancers, etc.).
  • Scalable Networking: Architect secure, cost-optimized hybrid connectivity (VPN, ExpressRoute, VNet peering) and global DNS strategies.

 Resiliency & Platform Support

  • Cost-Effective DR: Design disaster recovery strategies (RTO/RPO) that balance business continuity with cost (e.g., Pilot Light vs. Multi-region Active/Active).
  • Observability: Establish monitoring and logging standards using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics to track both performance and cost anomalies.
Education and Experience
  • 8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure or systems engineering.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Azure architecture experience with a proven track record of managing spend at scale ($50k–$100k+/month).
  • Expert-level proficiency in IaC: Extensive experience with Terraform (preferred) or Bicep in a production environment.
  • Advanced Azure Billing Knowledge: Deep understanding of EA/MCA agreements, Azure Resource Graph (Kusto/KQL), and retail vs. negotiated rates.
  • Data Platform Experience: Hands-on experience optimizing Azure Databricks, ADLS, and Entra ID integration.
Certifications

Preferred certifications or equivalent hands-on experience across Azure DevOps, application development, networking, identity & access management, and hybrid infrastructure:

  • FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) – Highly Preferred

Eight Sleep
New York, NY

Job Description

Job Description
Join the Sleep Fitness Movement

At Eight Sleep, we’re on a mission to fuel human potential through optimal sleep. As the world’s first sleep fitness company, we’re redefining what it means to be well-rested and building the most advanced hardware, software, and AI technology to make it possible. Our products power peak mental, physical, and emotional performance by transforming every night of sleep into a personalized, data-driven recovery experience. We are trusted by high performers, professional athletes, and health-conscious consumers in over 30 countries worldwide. Recognized as one of Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies in 2019, 2022, and 2023, 2026 and twice named to TIME's “Best Inventions of the Year.” We operate like a high-performance team: fast, focused, and motivated by impact. We don’t just ship; we iterate, refine, and obsess over the details that help our members sleep better and wake up stronger.

Every role at Eight Sleep is a chance to create cutting-edge technology, collaborate with world-class talent, and help shape a future where sleep isn’t passive - it’s a powerful tool for living better. If you’re tired of the ordinary and driven to build at the edge of what’s possible, this is your moment. Join us and lead the movement that’s transforming how the world sleeps and what we’re all capable of when we wake up.

High Standards. No Apologies.

We operate with intensity because our mission demands it. At Eight Sleep, we bring the same mindset as the world’s top performers: focused, relentless, and always pushing to be in the top 1% of our craft. Think Kobe Bryant’s mamba mentality, applied to bold ideas, next-gen tech, and flawless execution. This isn’t a 9-to-5. Our team is deeply committed, often putting in 60+ hours a week –not because we’re told to, but because we’re invested. We’re here to build fast, push limits, and deliver without compromise. If you thrive under pressure and want to do the most meaningful work of your career, you’ll feel right at home. If you’re looking for something easier –this isn’t it.

The role

We’re looking for a product designer who thinks beyond aesthetics. Someone who is as passionate about crafting seamless user experiences as they are about beautiful interfaces. You care deeply about building, shipping, and iterating on real products, not just making polished mockups that never see the light of day.

As a Product Designer on our mobile team, you’ll play a critical role in shaping the Eight Sleep app, driving the design of engaging, intuitive, and seamless experiences that help users optimize their sleep and health. You’ll collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Brand, and Research & Development teams to craft high-quality, data-driven designs that balance aesthetics with usability.

We don’t believe in rigid design silos. At many companies, product design is split into UX, UI, and other sub-disciplines. Here, it’s all in one. You should be an exceptional generalist who can move fluidly between information architecture, visual design, and interaction patterns, with an eye for both pixel perfection and real-world usability. As a key member of our small but growing design team, you'll have significant ownership over the app experience, ensuring that users can effortlessly track, understand, and optimize their sleep performance while maintaining long-term engagement with the Eight Sleep ecosystem.

How you’ll contribute

We are a mission-driven company, so passion for what we do and our mission is key. At a high level, the role encompasses three areas:

  • Design: You’ll sit at the intersection of Design and Product, playing a key role in the end-to-end design and evolution of the Eight Sleep app. Your responsibilities will encompass the full spectrum of product design, from information architecture and low-fidelity wireframes to high-fidelity mockups, and everything in-between.

  • Validate: You’ll conduct usability studies and user interviews to inform design work, and work closely with our in-house customer discovery squad. You’ll use data to inform the success or failure of the design.

  • Iterate: You’ll combine qualitative and quantitative customer insights to make design decisions that improve our app experience, reduce churn, and increase engagement.

Some other details about the role:

  • You’ll work as part of an interdisciplinary team to deliver captivating user experiences that increase membership value and support hardware innovations

  • You’ll build, document, and organize the UI components of our design library and system to drive consistency across our app and the rest of the brand

  • You’ll align with Product and Brand stakeholders and clearly present design updates to C-suite leadership for feedback and approval

  • You’ll serve as the subject matter expert responsible for app design patterns and interactions - including researching and staying up-to-date on emerging mobile design trends and best practices

  • You’ll collaborate closely with the Engineering, Product, and Marketing teams to ship world class products and features

What you need to succeed

  • 4+ years experience in UX and UI, with a strong portfolio including live mobile examples

  • You’ve shipped your designs to public users and have data that proves either success or failure

  • You are able to consider the technical implications of design decisions and have the ability to find the right balance between new user value and technical effort

  • You have experience coaching junior designers and collaborating closely with Product Managers and Engineers

  • You are obsessed with simplicity, have a high-quality bar for the aesthetics in your design

  • You thrive as an independent thinker and can manage the design process from end to end even in open-ended ambiguous environments

  • Able and flexible to iterate fast and often

  • You are confident in writing clear agendas and decks, and presenting design evolutions to C-Suite leadership

  • Your are open to occasional travel to other office locations (San Francisco, Milan) to work with other teams in-person

  • You are excited about the opportunity to build a fast-growing brand into an iconic company

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in a related design field or equivalent experience

Bonus points for:

  • Having built iconic, consumer-facing mobile apps at small and mid-size tech startups (with the data & reviews to prove it)

  • Experience designing mobile apps for Android
