Summary:

The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse provides comprehensive patient care in the obstetric setting. This role encompasses assessing maternal and fetal health, administering treatments, and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. The position requires strong clinical skills in obstetrics, critical thinking abilities, excellent communication, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and professional ethics.

Essential Work Functions:
  • Communicate labor and delivery procedures to patients and families, providing reassurance and addressing concerns
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved obstetric nursing techniques
  • Prepare equipment and aid physician during labor, delivery, and examination of patients
  • Provide immediate postpartum care, including assessment and stabilization of mother and newborn
  • Educate patients and families on postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, and newborn care
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other team members to deliver cohesive care
  • Respond to obstetric emergencies, including preeclampsia, hemorrhage, or fetal distress, using evidence-based protocols
  • Document patient care, assessments, and interventions accurately in the medical record
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance maternal and neonatal outcomes
  • Perform fetal monitoring and interpret results
  • Assist in cesarean sections and other obstetric procedures
  • Comply with all regulatory standards, including hospital policies, state laws, and federal guidelines for obstetric nursing care
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of labor and delivery nursing
Required Essential Skills:

Opportunity Details

  • Ludington is a charming Lake Michigan beach town celebrated for its beautiful beaches, rolling dunes, historic lighthouses, expansive state parks, and rich maritime heritage.
  • This opportunity is based within the outpatient department of Trinity Health Shelby Hospital.
  • Position offers full-spectrum family medicine in a welcoming rural community.
  • Clinic hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with the physician practicing in-office 4 to 4.5 days per week.
  • In addition to primary care, the facility provides convenient on-site access to imaging, laboratory services, rehabilitation, and urgent care all located within the same building.
  • The Family Medicine physician will join a collaborative care team consisting of two physicians and three APPs.
  • Unrestricted call is shared among physicians in the network and typically occurs every nine weeks; holiday call is rotated.
  • Opportunities are available to teach residents, medical students, and fellows.
