Senior Software Engineer II, Applied AI
LVT
seattle, wa
Compensation: 185.400 - 232.050

LVT is redefining how businesses operate in the physical world, moving beyond traditional security solutions to deliver AI-driven, actionable intelligence that makes sites smarter, safer, and more secure. Since pioneering our first mobile, solar-powered units, our commitment to scrappy, hands‑on innovation has made us an established leader and one of the fastest-growing companies in intelligent site technology. We are building the next generation of solutions—from our physical units in the field to a powerful Agentic AI platform—that allows our customers to gain unprecedented visibility and control over safety, compliance, and operations. This is your chance to join a cutting‑edge team that isn't just watching the world change, but actively building the technology that is changing it.

We’re a team that’s focused on growth and innovation, and we’re proud that our crew, products, and leadership are being recognized for it.

  • A Top-Tier Growth Company: Named one of the Financial Times’ Fastest Growing Companies 2025 and #10 on the Inc. 5000 Rocky Mountain Regional list for 2025.
  • Innovative Leadership: Our CEO, Ryan Porter, was named an EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2025, and our CTO, Steve Lindsey, was inducted into the Silicon Slopes CTO Hall of Fame in 2024.
  • Product & Software Excellence: We were named one of The Software Report’s Top 100 Software Companies of 2023 and are a winner of the Security Today Govies Award for 2025.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Applied AI to own end‑to‑end delivery of LVT's GenAI‑powered security deterrence product. It sits directly on top of LVT's perception stack and turns detections into spoken action in the real world.

Where our AI platform and data teams build the rails, this role builds the product that rides on them and is accountable for production delivery. You will own both the GenAI harness and the application code around it, from design through production and iteration. Because this product acts on the physical world, you'll own the precision and safety bar that comes with it.

This is a hands‑on senior individual‑contributor role at the intersection of several functions. You'll work cross‑team with backend and platform engineers, with the ML/LLM Ops platform you deploy against, and directly with the ML engineers who own the detection models, integrating their work into a shipped product and feeding field behavior back to them. You'll also own pragmatic build-versus-buy decisions for this product: when to self-host versus call a managed model, which voice/TTS approach to adopt, and where to draw the line between product‑specific code and shared platform capabilities.

You should be equally comfortable writing production application code, designing an evaluation harness for a system that must rarely act wrongly, integrating against detection models you don't own, and making a defensible build-versus-buy call under real cost and latency constraints.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • End-to-End Product Ownership: Own GenAI‑powered security product from design through production and field iteration including architecture, application code, rollout, monitoring, and the follow‑through after launch.
  • Detection-to-Response Harness: Build and own the logic that turns a detection into the right spoken response including orchestration, prompting, voice generation and customization with a product-level evaluation and regression suite that catches false or mistimed talkdowns before they reach the field.
  • Precision & Safety Bar: Own the false‑positive and timing discipline a real‑world‑actuating system demands. Define what "acted correctly" means, instrument it across lighting and scene conditions, and hold the bar as detection types expand.
  • Application Engineering: Design and build the services, APIs, and integration code that wrap detection and voice into a product, to LVT's standards for reliability, observability, and operational readiness.
  • Cross‑Team Integration: Integrate against the ML/LLM Ops serving platform and the data team's datasets and contracts rather than rebuilding them, and partner with the ML scientists who own the detection models turning their models into product behavior and routing field signals back to them.
  • Build vs. Buy: Own build‑versus‑buy recommendations and decisions for this product's components managed model API versus self-hosted, voice/TTS provider versus in-house, third‑party framework versus shared platform capability with cost, latency, and maintenance trade‑offs made explicit.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Software Engineering Depth: 6+ years building and shipping production software, backend or full‑stack with strong systems and API design judgment and ownership of services in production.
  • Applied AI / GenAI Product Experience: Has built products on top of ML/GenAI models including orchestration, prompting, retrieval or tool‑calling, and especially generation such as voice/TTS including the evaluation harness needed to keep a non‑deterministic system reliable. This is application of models in a product, not model training.
  • Real‑World / Real‑Time Systems: Experience with systems where a wrong output has real consequences real‑time, event‑driven, or actuating systems and the precision and latency discipline that requires. (security, robotics, IoT, or safety‑relevant systems are all relevant)
  • End-to-End Delivery: A track record of owning a product or major feature end to end, not just implementing a spec handed down.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Effective working directly with ML scientists and across platform, data, and product teams; comfortable integrating against models and contracts owned by others.
  • Build‑vs‑Buy Judgment: Demonstrated pragmatic technology selection under cost and latency constraints, with the reasoning made explicit.
  • Technical Foundation: Strong Python, plus the application stack in use (e.g. TypeScript/Node); experience building APIs and production backend systems.
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Computer‑vision / video products, especially detection‑driven systems (person/vehicle detection, low‑light imaging).
  • Voice / TTS generation and customization at production quality.
  • Agentic and generative tooling: LangGraph, MCP frameworks, vector databases, and inference/serving platforms.
  • Experience building evaluation and regression frameworks for non‑deterministic or real‑world‑actuating systems.
  • Familiarity with edge‑to‑cloud or IoT systems.

COMPENSATION

The beginning annual salary range for this role is $185,400 - $232,050 USD and is determined by location, job‑related experience, and education/training. Your total earning potential is amplified by a bonus structure tied to meeting goals, and you will become an owner from day one through our employee equity program.

BENEFITS

We believe you do your best work when your whole life is supported. We invest in our crew’s health, families, and financial futures with a benefits package designed to support you inside and outside the office. Full‑time benefits include, but not limited to: Comprehensive health, dental and vision coverage, retirement benefits (401k match up to 4%), and flexible PTO.

LVT IS PROUD TO BE AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER

All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status. All candidates must pass a drug screening and background check upon employment. Some roles may also require passing a federal background check and fingerprinting. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. If reasonable accommodation is needed to participate in the job application or interview process, and/or to perform essential job functions, please reach out to your recruiter.

Exceptional capability in establishing and executing predictable governance structures, including annual risk assessment calendars, policy review cycles, and audit readiness.

Overview

We are looking for senior software engineers focusing on the backend to join the Bastion engineering team.

We are mostly based in New York, but are open to amazing engineers anywhere in the United States as long as you are effective working remotely.

Work to Be Done

Instead of a list of requirements, we want to give you a directional look into the first 30, 90, and 180 days on the job.

We are a startup, so the pace is fast and the specific work will change. You need to be okay with that.

If you think this is something you can handle, we will be excited to speak with you.

First 30 days: Learn the rails, ship confidently

  • Ramp on service layout, CI/CD, observability, engineering conventions and practices

  • Ship a small feature slice or quality-of-life improvement in one service

  • Add tests, dashboards, or runbook notes for the areas you touch

  • Outcomes

    • Multiple safe production deploys with follow-up verification

    • You can run core services locally and trace requests through logs/metrics

    • Updated documentation and/or PRs that improve onboarding in your area

By 90 days: Own a service surface and raise the bar

  • Take ownership of a service or capability across our product, with an eye toward issuance-readiness

  • Lead a medium-scope project: eg. updating an API contract, implementing a partner integration, or improving robustness of a critical path

  • Strengthen reliability with better logging, tracing, alerts, and failure handling

  • Outcomes

    • A delivered feature/refactor that improves a product metric, SLO, or developer ergonomics

    • You’re a go-to person for your service domain

By 180 days: Drive cross-service impact

  • Lead a cross-service initiative, such as an API versioning plan, a data model migration, or a compliance-driven workflow change

  • Shape technical direction with design docs and mentoring

  • Partner with product and compliance to make pragmatic, regulation-aware tradeoffs

  • Outcomes

    • A multi-sprint delivery that simplifies the system and unlocks product velocity

    • Clear before/after reliability or performance improvements

    • Documentation and designs that help others ship faster and safer

Some problems you might work on

  • Designing stable, evolvable APIs for custody, transfers, or issuance without breaking downstream clients

  • Building idempotent job flows for high-throughput transfers with strong audit trails

  • Hardening key operations using hardware-backed isolation and robust key policies

  • Improving p95 latency through query tuning, caching, or backpressure strategies

Our typical stack

  • Languages: Go and TypeScript/Node.js; some services in Rust as needed

  • Service patterns: gRPC and REST; GraphQL/tRPC at the edge for frontend BFFs

  • Data and async processing: Postgres, Redis, Kakfa

  • Workflow Management: Temporal

  • Infra: AWS, containers, Kubernetes, Terraform; hardware-backed key isolation with Nitro Enclaves for sensitive operations

  • Observability and ops: Datadog, Grafana, Sentry, Incident.io

Data at Brex

Our Scientists and Engineers work together to make data — and insights derived from data — a core asset across Brex. But it’s more than just crunching numbers. The Data team at Brex develops infrastructure, statistical models, and products using financial data. Our work is ingrained in Brex’s decision‑making process, the efficiency of our operations, our risk management policies, and the unparalleled experience we provide our consumers.

What you’ll do

This position is on our Data Enablement Platform team. The Brex product requires a huge amount of data to power our client experiences. With a largely async architecture, proliferation of services and multiple operations systems, this data originates from many different sources and in different forms. To ensure that our product experience is unbounded in how it leverages this data, the Data Enablement Platform team owns and operates the systems required to deliver it to our clients, and partners with them to create impactful data‑backed products. As a DEP team member you will help build Brex’s Data Infrastructure and also work across the entire data stack to help product teams build data backed products.

Responsibilities

  • Build, improve, and maintain Brex’s data platform and infrastructure: data warehouse & analytics, data streaming, replication and materialization, data orchestration, data observability, access & governance.
  • Partner with Brex’s product teams, data science and analytics teams to help them launch superior products backed by data insights.
  • Level up the data competency at Brex through partnership and education.
  • Invest in building resilient data architectures, participate in on‑call rotations, and continuously improve our operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience in a data infra or data platform role
  • Experience with one or more of Snowflake, Flink, Airflow, dbt, CDC
  • Fluency in Kotlin or Kotlin like development languages such as Python
  • Experience building and maintaining large‑scale modern data stack
  • Experience with streaming infra like Kafka
  • Experience in backend engineering or full‑stack development
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially working across team boundaries and building XFN relationships
  • Must be willing to work in office 3 days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

Bonus points

  • Experience collaborating with product teams or building full‑stack data backed products
  • Experience with data architecture and data strategy

Compensation

The expected salary range for this role is $192,000-$240,000 USD. However, the starting base pay will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity. Depending on the position offered, equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
