Head of Finance
Moove
mesa, az
Compensation: 150.000 - 180.000

Head of Finance Role

We are seeking a strategic and hands‑on Head of Finance to serve as the financial architect of our organization. This is not a traditional back‑office role; you will be a key business partner to the CEO, driving the financial strategy required to scale a capital‑intensive, high‑operational‑tempo business.

In this role, you will build the finance function from the ground up—selecting the tech stack, defining unit economics, and establishing the controls necessary for rapid growth. You will balance the immediate need for robust accounting operations with the long‑term need for sophisticated financial modeling and capital allocation strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Financial Planning

  • Architect the Financial Roadmap: Partner with the CEO to drive strategic planning, providing data‑driven insights on expansion, pricing models, and capital allocation.
  • Advanced Modeling: Develop and manage sophisticated financial models to analyze unit economics (e.g., cost per mile, fleet utilization rates), evaluate investment opportunities, and support company valuation.
  • Forecasting & Budgeting: Lead the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts, working cross‑functionally to ensure departmental alignment with company‑wide goals.

Operations & Systems

  • Build the Tech Stack: Lead the selection, implementation, and optimization of a scalable financial technology stack (ERP, expense management, and payroll systems) that creates automation and efficiency.
  • Treasury & Cash Management: Oversee cash flow planning and liquidity management, ensuring the company is capitalized to meet operational milestones.
  • Asset Management: Rigorous oversight of capital expenditures (CapEx), particularly regarding fleet infrastructure and depot facility costs.

Accounting, Compliance & Reporting

  • Financial Integrity: Establish and maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Reporting: Deliver timely, accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Stakeholder Management: Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, banking partners, and investors.

What We’re Looking For

Experience & Education

  • Background: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, with at least 5 years in a leadership role (Director/VP level).
  • Industry Fit: Experience in Asset‑Heavy, Logistics, Transportation, or Mobility sectors is highly desirable. Familiarity with high‑growth startup environments is preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics required. A CPA license and/or MBA is strongly preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Systems Expert: Proven track record of selecting and implementing financial software (e.g., migrating from QuickBooks to NetSuite/Sage Intacct).
  • Analytical Powerhouse: Exceptional financial modeling skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable strategic advice.
  • Communicator: The ability to distill complex financial concepts into clear narratives for non‑finance stakeholders and investors.
  • Builder Mindset: You are comfortable working in ambiguity and enjoy building processes from scratch rather than just maintaining existing ones.

Qualifications

  • Must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
  • Travel up to 20% both domestically and internationally.

Why Join Moove?

  • Impact: Play a foundational role in shaping the operational standard for the autonomous vehicle industry.
  • Growth: Opportunity to scale a finance department and potentially grow into a CFO role as the company expands.
  • Culture: A collaborative, fast‑paced environment in the heart of the AV innovation hub (Phoenix).
  • Flexibility: A hybrid work model that balances in‑person collaboration with remote flexibility.
