Every role at Eight Sleep is a chance to create cutting-edge technology, collaborate with world-class talent, and help shape a future where sleep isn’t passive - it’s a powerful tool for living better. If you’re tired of the ordinary and driven to build at the edge of what’s possible, this is your moment. Join us and lead the movement that’s transforming how the world sleeps and what we’re all capable of when we wake up.

High Standards. No Apologies.

We operate with intensity because our mission demands it. At Eight Sleep, we bring the same mindset as the world’s top performers: focused, relentless, and always pushing to be in the top 1% of our craft. Think Kobe Bryant’s mamba mentality, applied to bold ideas, next-gen tech, and flawless execution. This isn’t a 9-to-5. Our team is deeply committed, often putting in 60+ hours a week –not because we’re told to, but because we’re invested. We’re here to build fast, push limits, and deliver without compromise. If you thrive under pressure and want to do the most meaningful work of your career, you’ll feel right at home. If you’re looking for something easier –this isn’t it.

The Role

Eight Sleep is the first sleep fitness company. At Eight Sleep we design products at the forefront of sleep innovation. Our mission is to make people’s sleep count for more, using innovative technology, minimalistic design, and proven clinical science to personalize and improve each night for everybody—changing the way people sleep forever and for better.

Our temperature-regulated technology, the Pod, is an absolute game changer. It improves people's health and happiness by changing the way they sleep. The Pod was recognized two years in a row by TIME's “Best Inventions of the Year.” It is available for purchase in North America and internationally. Backed by leading Silicon Valley investors including Valor Equity Partners, Founders Fund, Khosla Ventures and Y Combinator, we’ve raised over $150 million (Series C) to date. We were recognized as one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies in Consumer Electronics in 2019, 2022, and 2023.

That is why Eight Sleep is looking for research scientists with a passion for using AI & Machine Learning to transform sensor data into personalized intelligent health & fitness experiences. Today, we offer heart rate, heart rate variability, sleep, and other metrics. Tomorrow, your imagination will unlock new meaningful metrics that will induce behavior change for better sleep and better health. To do so, you will work closely with a cross‑functional R&D and production team to prototype and to ship solutions.

We are seeking someone who is passionate about health technologies and about making an impact on health outcomes. We look for people who tackle problems with a system approach, and make data driven decisions to deliver the best products to our users.

How you'll contribute

  • Example projects include:
    • Autopilot Thermoregulation: Advance the Pod’s adaptive thermoregulation system - the “autopilot” system that continuously learns and reacts to micro-events like restlessness or awakenings. Design policies that optimize comfort and sleep quality in real time through reinforcement learning and closed‑loop control.
    • Health Foundation Modeling: Develop a multimodal health foundation model that integrates physiology and environmental context - learning from Pod signals, wearable sensors, and contextual data - powered by one billion+ hours of sleep data at Eight Sleep.
    • Behavioral simulations: Build a high‑fidelity physiological simulator that models how daily behaviors ripple into tonight’s sleep and tomorrow’s readiness. This initiative aims to create a non‑invasive, always‑on model of healthy aging powered by Pod biosignals and continuous physiological data.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Expertise in at least one area of machine learning and artificial intelligence (e.g., self‑supervised learning, multi‑modal ML, model optimization, NLP, LLM)
  • Strong interest in applying machine learning to health related problems and data
  • Experience using a programming language (Python, C/C++ etc.) to manipulate data, draw insights from large data sets, and train machine learning models
  • 3+ years of practical experience applying ML to solve real‑world problems or relevant quantitative and qualitative research and analytics experience
  • PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, Statistics, Mathematics, or related quantitative field with a notable publication record; or BS/MS with publications at top venues (e.g. NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, CVPR, ICCV, ACL, EMNLP, INTERSPEECH)

Full Stack Engineer
Macroscope Inc.
San Francisco, CA
Compensation: 200.000 - 250.000

About Macroscope

Macroscope aims to be the source of truth of what's happening for any company that builds software. Our mission is to give leaders clarity and engineers time.

We help leaders understand how their products and codebases are evolving—what’s changing, who’s working on what, and where progress is happening—grounded in the ultimate source of truth: the code.

Macroscope is founded by former entrepreneurs who have started and sold multiple companies, and operated as product/engineering executives at public tech companies. We're fortunate to be supported by the best VC firms and angels in the business, including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Thrive Capital, Google Ventures, and Adverb.

About the role

We're looking for an exceptional engineer to develop our customer-facing product experience on the web. You'll be part of a small team with direct ownership and impact on the product experience that every one of our customers will interact with. You will play a leadership role in defining and improving the overall infrastructure and architecture of our web application, and set the foundation for how we continue to expand the product in the future. Along with your other teammates, you will help define the first impression of Macroscope for all our customers. You'll work closely with our founders, our entire engineering team and our designer to build products that deliver true value.

Our technology stack: Typescript/React (front-end), Golang (backend), Temporal, Google Cloud (GCP), Postgres, Terraform, custom-built AST "code walkers" in various languages (Golang, Typescript, Swift, Python, Rust, and others)

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of full-stack software development and architecture.
  • You have mastery of HTML/CSS, Typescript, Javascript, and React. Experience working on backend coding languages and systems (like Go and Postgress)
  • You have experience architecting and scaling complex web applications, knowing how both sides of the stack come together to create durable and performant applications.
  • You are able to develop end-to-end frontend features, independently building all parts of the system to ship the feature to production.
  • You've worked alongside other engineers and designers to build complex and challenging products at scale.
  • Ideally, you have experience on smaller teams or companies, where there is less process and structure.
  • You have experience working or interfacing with AI systems and LLMs.
  • You use various AI-tools to accelerate you as an engineer, and you are curious about staying up to date with the latest and greatest.

About you

  • You are extremely high agency. We are a small startup and we intend to keep an extremely flat organizational structure for as long as possible. Instead of relying on people managers, product managers and heavy processes, we rely on exceptionally talented individuals with high agency to be self-motivated towards contributing to our mission.
  • You want to work at an early stage start-up. The default state of any startup is failure. The only way to overcome the daunting odds of making a startup venture successful is for a densely packed group of insanely hard working and talented people to work together to building something useful to and loved by customers. If you're not willing to work extremely hard on something high risk, this startup isn't for you.
  • You act like an owner. You put immense care and craft into what you build because you take responsibility for all parts of the product. You don't walk past broken windows.

Forward Deployed Engineer
Metriport Inc.
WorkFromHome, CA
Compensation: 200.000 - 250.000

Forward Deployed Engineer

San Francisco, CA

About us

Metriport is an open-source data intelligence platform that helps healthcare organizations access and exchange patient data in real-time. We integrate with all major US healthcare ITsystems and tap into comprehensive medical data for 300+ million individuals.

We've found product-market fit with multi-million ARR, 100+ customers (including Strive Health, Circle Medical, and Brightside Health), backing from top VCs, and years of runway. We're ready to scale. We're a tight-knit, high-performing team of mostly former founders (including two YC alumni). We're engineering-heavy, operate with minimal bureaucracy and high autonomy, and hire based on competence, not prestige. We push hard—founders work six days a week from our SF office—but give everyone freedom to craft their schedule. We measure output and we're committed to sustainable intensity.

About you

In a nutshell, we're looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer with the following specific qualities:

  • You’re entrepreneurial-minded, with an olympian-level work ethic (nearly our entire engineering team consists of former founders).

  • You are confident in your ability to connect with customers and building strong partnerships while providing technical guidance

  • You believe you can solve any problem that comes at you, and don't shy away from diving deep into areas where you may lack domain expertise and have a strong sense of ownership over your work.

  • You care more about the end result and delivering value to a customer, rather than what new and frilly tech is being used under the hood for a given feature.

  • When someone scopes out a project with an ETA of 3 weeks, you ask yourself "why can't it be done in 3 days?".

  • You’re a hacker at heart, and have a good sense of what rules should, and shouldn’t, be broken.

What you'll be doing

After quickly ramping up using our comprehensive onboarding materials to get familiar with our domain, and codebase, the goal would be to get you connected with customers as quickly as possible. Specifically, day to day, this looks like:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the customer throughout the partnership.

  • Conduct discovery calls when a customer is onboarded to understand their use cases, technical requirements, and success criteria.

  • Participate in weekly syncs with onboarding customers to ensure they are deriving value from product and have successfully integrated Metriport into their day-to-day workflows.

  • Maintain the customer relationship after onboarding, through regular check-ins and providing continuous support through communication channels.

  • Provide technical expertise by helping to answer questions about product capabilities, integrations, and implementation.

  • Troubleshoot and debug customer issues, in some cases working with the engineering team to resolve them.

  • Manage customer requests and issues by assessing priority, coordinating with engineering teams, tracking progress, and communicating resolutions to customers.

  • Join weekly syncs to update the team on how customers are doing, raise anything that needs addressing, and discuss where customer feedback fits into what we're building.

  • Proactively communicate relevant product updates and new feature releases that align with customer needs and use cases.

  • Participating in bi-weekly sprint planning / retro sessions, and quarterly planning sessions.

  • Managing APIs and integrations to ensure seamless functionality for customers.

  • Working with customers from onboarding to production roll-out.

  • Attending a daily 30 minute remote stand-up at 7:30am PST Mon-Fri (our only regular mandatory meeting).

Requirements

  • You have 3+ years experience supporting software implementation

  • Full-stack experience: React, TypeScript, Node.js.

  • You’re located in San Francisco or the Bay Area (or willing to relocate).

  • Healthcare experience isn't required, but if the following terms mean something to you, that's a plus: HIPAA, FHIR, HIE, IHE, EHR/EMR, NPI, TEFCA, ADT, HL7, HEDIS, RAF, SNOMED, LOINC, ICD-10, etc.

Benefits

  • Competitive equity + compensation package

Software Engineer, Systems
Eventual
San Francisco, CA
Compensation: 200.000 - 250.000

About Eventual

Every breakthrough AI application, from foundation models to autonomous vehicles, relies on processing massive volumes of images, video, and complex data. But today’s data platforms (like Databricks and Snowflake) are built on top of tools made for spreadsheet‑like analytics, not the petabytes of multimodal data that power AI. As a result, teams waste months on brittle infrastructure instead of conducting research and building their core product.

Eventual was founded in 2022 to solve this. Our mission is to make querying any kind of data, images, video, audio, text, as intuitive as working with tables, and powerful enough to scale to production workloads. Our open‑source engine, Daft, is purpose‑built for real‑world AI systems: coordinating with external APIs, managing GPU clusters, and handling failures that traditional engines can’t. Daft already powers critical workloads at companies like Amazon, Mobileye, Together AI, and CloudKitchens.

We’ve assembled a world‑class team from Databricks, AWS, Nvidia, Pinecone, GitHub Copilot, Tesla, and more, quadrupling our size within a year. With Series A and seed funding from Felicis, CRV, Microsoft M12, Citi, Essence, Y Combinator, Caffeinated Capital, Array.vc, and top angels from the co‑founders of Databricks and Perplexity, we’re looking to double the team now. Join us—Eventual is just getting started.

Please note we’re looking for individuals who are excited to be a part of a tight‑knit team working together 4 days / week in our SF Mission district office.

Your Role:

As a Software Engineer on the Systems team, you will build key capabilities for the Daft distributed data engine. You will be working on core architectural design and implementation of various components in Daft. While we are an experienced team that can provide constant guidance and mentorship, we value engineers who can autonomously scope and solve difficult technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning/Query Optimizer: intelligently optimize users’ workloads with modern database techniques

  • Execution Engine: improve memory stability through the use of streaming computation and more efficient data structures

  • Distributed Scheduler: improve Daft’s resource utilization, task scheduling and fault tolerance

  • Storage: improve Daft integrations with modern data lake technologies such as Apache Parquet, Apache Iceberg and Delta Lake

  • Our goal is to build the world’s best open‑source distributed query engine, becoming the leading framework for data engineering and analytics.

  • We are a young startup – so be prepared to wear many hats such as tinkering with infrastructure, talking to customers and participating heavily in the core design process of our product!

What we look for:

  • We are looking for a candidate with a strong foundation in systems programming and ideally experience with building distributed data systems or databases (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Dask, Ray, BigQuery, PostgreSQL etc)

  • 3+ years of experience working with distributed data systems (query planning, optimizations, workload pipelining, scheduling, networking, fault tolerance etc)

  • Strong fundamentals in systems programming (e.g. C++, Rust, C) and Linux

  • Familiarity and experience with cloud technologies (e.g. AWS S3 etc)

  • Most importantly, we are looking for someone who works well in small, focused teams with fast iterations and lots of autonomy. If you are passionate, intellectually curious and excited to build the next generation of distributed data technologies, we want you on the team!

Perks & Benefits

  • In‑person tight knit team with 4x a week in office

  • Competitive comp and startup equity

  • Catered lunches and dinners for SF employees

  • Commuter benefit

  • Team building events & poker nights

  • Health, vision, and dental coverage

  • Flexible PTO

  • Latest Apple equipment

  • 401k plan with match!
