Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBLE FOR:
The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care for patients. He/she functions within the framework of the policies and procedures of the organization and demonstrates professional growth and accountability. The staff nurse is responsible for maintaining standards of practice, coordinating patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Performs patient assessments to include collection of data regarding the patients physical, psychosocial and health history.

2. Appropriately evaluates the developmental age of the patient when performing assessments, treatments and patient/family education.

3. Organizes patient data into the formulation of a plan of care; identifies additional information needed and makes care decisions based on identified needs. Identifies expected patient outcomes.

4. Carries out plan of care to achieve desired patient outcomes.

5. Provides patient care that is specific to the setting, identified needs and plan; ensures that the care provided is appropriate to the severity of the disease, condition, impairment or disability.

6. Oversees activities of ancillary and support team members.

7. Identifies teaching opportunities and provides the resources necessary for achieving the educational goals of the patients.

8. Communications issues/concerns to the Charge Nurse, Clinical Manager and/or physician as appropriate.

9. Documents patient care and concerns in the patient record.

CHA Perioperative Services consists of Orthopedics, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Urology, Plastics, Podiatry, Vascular and Endoscopy and many other services. Cambridge Health Alliance's experienced Surgery team has performed thousands of procedures at some of Boston's finest teaching hospitals. Today, we have recruited highly-regarded surgeons and are able to provide state-of-the-art care in our operating rooms. The department has grown significantly adding skilled surgeons who bring specialized care to our communities. Our most recent initiatives includes a minimally invasive surgery program, hepatobiliary and pancreatic program, and multidisciplinary breast center. All of our Surgeons handle routine cases as well as more complex procedures. Whenever possible, we use minimally invasive techniques to reduce the discomfort and recovery time of surgery. Many procedures can now be done on an outpatient basis with patients going home the same day. These procedures including Endoscopy are performed at Cambridge and Everett hospital and outpatient Endoscopy is performed at our Somerville Campus. 

The Endoscopy/Gastroenterology Scheduling Nurse knows and understands the philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures of nursing service. Clinical nursing leadership at Cambridge Health Alliance is manifested by personal commitment, accountability, and initiative in clinical practice. Patients are our priority. It is the clinical nurse who assists patients to reach their health care goals. The main purpose of the Endo/GI nurse is to provide quality patient care according to Cambridge Health Alliance and the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates standards of nursing practice. The role of the Endo/GI nurse is to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document patient care in a professional manner. The GI Scheduling nurse will also demonstrate the ability to provide care in procedural, pre-and post procedural, and clinic settings. 

Qualifications//Education/Certification: 

Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing 

Current RN MA licensure in good standing required. 

American Heart Association BLS certifications required; ABCGN Certification is preferred.

Conducts detailed analysis and collaborates with other organization leaders and Medical Staff in setting priorities for the comprehensive and primary stroke center development. Develops and facilitates ongoing community and professional education programs. Initiates and manages operations associated with facilitating performance improvement teams and serves as a liaison for stroke program related issues. The Program Manager is responsible for ensuring that consistent standards guide the provision of patient care where care is provided. Actively serves as a staff and patient advocate.

Requirements

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelors degree in nursing required, masters degree in nursing or other Healthcare related field and/or Business Administration preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience in neuroscience nursing or neuroscience related nursing field. Leadership experience in related field preferred. Previous Primary Stroke Center or program management experience preferred.

Certification: ACLS required. SCRN, CNRN required within (1) year of employment.

License: Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Florida
