Senior Firmware Engineer, Connectivity
Eight Sleep
san francisco, ca
Compensation: 120.000 - 150.000

Sr. Firmware Engineer, Bluetooth (BLE)

How you'll contribute

  • Own the BLE Stack: Architect, implement, and maintain the Bluetooth connectivity layer across our Pod ecosystem. Define GATT services, characteristics, and connection strategies that deliver reliable, secure, and power‑efficient communication.
  • Optimize for Always‑On Devices: Drive radio‑on time, advertising intervals, connection parameters, and PHY selection while maintaining low‑latency sync of biometric data.
  • Ensure Bulletproof Interoperability: Deliver a connectivity experience that "just works" across the long tail of iOS and Android devices, OS versions, and real‑world RF environments. Use sniffers, protocol analyzers, and on‑device telemetry to root‑cause cross‑stack issues with mobile and Pod gateway teams.
  • Ship and Sustain OTA at Scale: Design and harden the secure OTA DFU pipeline so we can confidently push firmware to a global fleet of devices with low friction and zero bricks.
  • Bring Up New Silicon: Partner with hardware teams on board bring‑up, antenna tuning, regulatory certification (FCC/CE/Bluetooth SIG qualification), and silicon‑vendor stack integration for our Nordic‑based platform.
  • Global Collaboration: Work closely with our manufacturing partners in China to develop RF and BLE production tests, ensuring we ship high‑quality, fully‑validated devices on time.
  • Effective Remote Communication: Thrive in a hybrid in‑person and remote work environment, ensuring clear and impactful communication across firmware, mobile, hardware, and ML teams.

What you need to succeed

  • Proven BLE Expertise: 5+ years of embedded software engineering, with at least 3 years shipping production BLE firmware.
  • Deep Protocol Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of the Bluetooth stack end‑to‑end — GAP, GATT, SMP, L2CAP, link layer behavior, advertising and scanning, connection events, pairing/bonding, and BLE security (LE Secure Connections, key management).
  • Silicon Vendor Stacks: Hands‑on experience with at least one vendor BLE stack and SDK (Nordic SoftDevice / nRF Connect SDK / Zephyr, Apple/Broadcom, TI, or similar). Comfortable reading and debugging vendor stack source.
  • Embedded Fundamentals: Fluency in C/C++ on resource‑constrained microcontrollers; proficiency with Python or NodeJS for host‑side tooling. Skilled at peripheral drivers and bus protocols (UART, I2C, SPI), DMA, and low‑power design.
  • Power Discipline: Demonstrated ability to hit ultra‑low‑power targets: measuring and optimizing radio duty cycle, sleep current, and connection parameters against real battery‑life budgets.
  • Shipping at Scale: Have launched and maintained large fleets of wireless devices, including monitoring connectivity telemetry, sync reliability, and OTA firmware updates in the field.
  • Hardware Acumen: Ability to read data sheets, schematics, and antenna matching networks for hardware bring‑up and RF debugging. Fluent with logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and BLE protocol sniffers (Ellisys, Frontline, nRF Sniffer, or equivalent).
  • Adaptive Problem Solver: A fast‑paced, iterative approach to debugging issues that span firmware, RF, mobile OS, and physics.
  • Travel Readiness: Willingness and ability to travel regularly to China for supplier and CM support.

What sets you apart

  • Track record shipping secure OTA DFU (signed images, dual‑bank update, rollback) on a constrained device.
  • Experience with multi‑link / multi‑role BLE topologies.
  • Bluetooth SIG qualification and regulatory certification experience (FCC/IC/CE/MIC).
  • Bare‑metal and cooperative‑scheduler design in environments without a traditional RTOS.
  • Expertise in automated BLE testing, RF chamber test setup, and connectivity observability/telemetry.
  • Deep understanding of embedded security practices: secure boot, key provisioning, encrypted firmware, and threat modeling for wireless attack surfaces.

Senior Software Engineer, Enforce - Safety Processing
Vamp
san francisco, ca
Compensation: 196.000 - 220.500

Discord is used by over 200 million people every month for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does on our platform: play video games. Over 90% of our users play games, spending a combined 1.5 billion hours playing thousands of unique titles on Discord each month. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming. We are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games.

The Safety Processing team builds the infrastructure and decision systems that enable accurate, efficient, and fair content moderation at scale. Keeping our users safe is foundational to everything we do.

The Enforce Squad is a newly formed squad within Safety Processing, responsible for the systems that translate safety decisions into real-world actions such as bans, warnings, content removal, and legally mandated reporting. These systems touch every user who violates policy and every piece of content that gets actioned. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can take ownership of complex, critical infrastructure and help us stabilize, scale, and evolve Discord's enforcement systems.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Own high impact projects within a complex distributed system from end-to-end that help Safety at Discord scale.
  • Improve production services that process millions of enforcement decisions per day, including participating in the team's 24/7 on‑call rotation.
  • Apply an adversarial mindset to enforcement systems to anticipate abuse patterns, edge cases, and failure modes in systems that must be accurate, fair, and legally compliant.
  • Partner with Trust & Safety, Policy, ML, Data Science, and Legal teams to deliver enforcement changes ranging from policy updates to compliance‑critical pipeline improvements.
  • Contribute to measurement foundations by working with Data Science to define and baseline enforcement metrics like recidivism rate, over‑enforcement rate, and unintended churn.

What You Should Have

  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Experience building and operating distributed systems and production services at scale (use GCP, PostgreSQL, Redis, Pub/Sub, KKV, and gRPC).
  • Demonstrated ability to own projects end-to-end and deliver results on time, including in ambiguous or transitional environments.
  • Strong debugging skills and ability to navigate complex, multi‑service codebases. Many of our systems have deep interdependencies.
  • Demonstrated adversarial thinking. The ability to anticipate misuse, edge cases, and system vulnerabilities in systems that bad actors are actively trying to circumvent.
  • Experience being in 24/7 on‑call rotations.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, including experience working across Trust & Safety, Policy, Legal, or Operations stakeholders.
  • Using Gen AI products, like Claude Code, as part of your daily workflow.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with content moderation, trust & safety, enforcement infrastructure, or related problem domains.
  • Familiarity with Rust.
  • Familiarity with legally mandated reporting pipelines or compliance‑sensitive systems.
  • Experience with workflow automation or decision systems, particularly handler‑based or rules‑driven enforcement architectures.
  • Experience with observability tooling, defining SLOs, building dashboards, and instrumenting distributed systems with Datadog or similar.
  • A strong passion for Discord and making online communities safer.

Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties). Relocation assistance may be available.

The US base salary range for this full‑time position is $196,000 to $220,500 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.

Senior Software Engineer - Core Services
Snorkel AI
san francisco, ca
Compensation: 220.000 - 260.000

About Snorkel

At Snorkel, we believe meaningful AI doesn’t start with the model, it starts with the data. We’re on a mission to help enterprises transform expert knowledge into specialized AI at scale. The AI landscape has gone through incredible changes since 2015, when Snorkel started as a research project in the Stanford AI Lab, to the generative AI breakthroughs of today. But one thing has remained constant: the data you use to build AI is the key to achieving differentiation, high performance, and production‑ready systems. We work with some of the world’s largest organizations to empower scientists, engineers, financial experts, product creators, journalists, and more to build custom AI with their data faster than ever before. Excited to help us redefine how AI is built? Apply to be the newest Snorkeler!

The Core Services team within Snorkel AI’s Infrastructure organization will own the data platform that powers everything at Snorkel – the pipelines, access layers, event systems, governance, and compute infrastructure that every product team and customer deployment depends on. We are a small team with a large surface area, and we are in the middle of a foundational architecture shift: moving from a single‑database data path to a multi‑source, event‑driven platform with dedicated stores for different workloads (transactional data in Postgres/RDS, analytical data in Snowflake, bulk storage in S3, metrics platform). The decisions being made now will define how data flows at Snorkel for years. You will be making them. You’ll also shape our AI‑native development workflow, contribute in modernizing CI/CD workflow (Buildkite, GitHub Actions), and integrate AI SRE tooling. Your work will directly accelerate developer velocity, reliability, and product quality across the company.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain the shared data access library and SDKs that Platform, Packaging, and Dataset API teams use to read from and write to multiple data sources (Snowflake, S3, RDS). Design interfaces that abstract source‑level complexity while providing built‑in auth, RBAC enforcement, pagination, and query governance.
  • Design and implement event‑driven data flows using event brokers, CDC connectors, schema registry, event routing, dead letter queues. Make sure events flow reliably and failures are visible and recoverable.
  • Build the systems that track how data moves through the platform (lineage), enforce who can access what (governance and RBAC), and log what happened (auditing). This includes PII handling, retention policy enforcement, and audit infrastructure for enterprise and federal compliance.
  • Instrument the data platform with OpenTelemetry, define and monitor SLOs for query latency and pipeline success rates, and build alerting that catches issues before they become incidents. You will be on‑call for the systems you build.
  • Contribute to infrastructure cost visibility and optimization – query cost estimation, workload right‑sizing, and routing data to the most cost‑effective storage tier for its access pattern.

What You’ll Bring

  • 4+ years building platform infrastructure, data infrastructure, data platforms, or backend systems with significant data components. You have built and operated pipelines, data access layers, or ETL/ELT systems in production.
  • Strong proficiency in Python. Our stack is Python‑heavy across Prefect, FastAPI, dbt, and the SDK layer.
  • Hands‑on experience with SQL and at least two of: Snowflake, Redshift, Postgres. You understand the performance characteristics of each and can write queries that don’t bring down production.
  • Experience with AWS — S3, RDS, EKS, EventBridge, IAM. Comfortable working in a Terraform‑managed environment.
  • Experience with Kubernetes. Our workloads run on EKS and you will deploy, debug, and scale services on K8s.
  • Familiarity with data orchestration tools (Prefect, Airflow, or Dagster) and transformation frameworks (dbt).
  • Understanding of data governance concepts — RBAC, PII handling, audit logging, data lineage.
  • Fluency with AI‑assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar). This is a hard requirement — the team uses these tools daily and we expect engineers to leverage them for code generation, debugging, and investigation.

Nice to Have

  • Experience building shared libraries or SDKs consumed by multiple teams — versioning, backwards compatibility, migration support.
  • Experience with event‑driven architectures — CDC, event buses, schema registries, at‑least‑once delivery semantics.
  • Experience with OpenTelemetry, ClickHouse, or similar observability infrastructure.
  • Prior work in regulated environments (SOC 2, FedRAMP, HIPAA) where compliance requirements shaped system design.
  • Experience with Ray for distributed compute workloads.

Salary

$220,000—$260,000 USD

Be Your Best at Snorkel
