  • Develops and recommends short and long-term goals for inpatient pharmacy services in consideration of Brown University Health’s mission, values and key business objectives.
  • Provides sponsorship to the function by identifying resources required to achieve the operating results and advocates for them during resource allocation.
  • Participates in the development, recommendation, implementation, and monitoring of inpatient operating budget for each affiliate.
  • Directs the effective utilization of resources including people, financial, and material by developing goals and objectives for inpatient areas of responsibility in collaboration with affiliate Managers.
  • Responsible for the implementation of business plans, in accordance with action planning to attain key operating objectives.

  • Responsible for the optimization of established formulary management initiatives that maximize therapeutic outcomes, reduce the risk of drug-related problems, and ensure the use of cost-effective pharmacotherapy throughout the health-system.
  • Directs sterile and non-sterile compounding services for inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with affiliate Managers.
  • Directs sterile and non-sterile compounding services for hospital based and off-site oncology clinics and infusion centers.
  • Responsible for compliance with Rhode Island Department of Health, Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations as related to compounding of pharmaceuticals, USP chapters 797/800/795, NIOSH, JC Medication Management, and related regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy required. Advanced study in pharmacy or healthcare-related field (Master’s or Doctor of Pharmacy) and a pharmacy residency, or equivalent experience.
  • Related graduate study in business administration or finance is highly desirable.
  • Current unrestricted state licensure as Registered Pharmacist.

Experience

TASKS. The contractor shall:

  • Independently perform specimen handling, processing, moderate to high complexity tests (including PCR, serology), and result reporting using systems like COBAS Ampliprep/Taqman, COBAS 6800, and Ortho 3600.
  • Conduct daily QC activities, calibrations, validations, equipment cleaning, and troubleshooting. Identify and correct issues that affect test accuracy or reliability.
  • Accurately input and analyze lab data using LIS and statistical tools; generate validated reports and maintain complete documentation for compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory, Clinical Center, and accrediting agency policies (e.g., CAP, CLIA); actively participate in audits, inspections, and proficiency testing.
  • Monitor and maintain reagent and supply inventory for specialty testing, and handle equipment and supply contracts.
  • Complete and document required training, ongoing education, and competency assessments as defined by TTV, DTM, and Clinical Center policies.
  • Communicate with medical staff regarding sample collection, troubleshooting, and interpretation of lab results. Maintain effective working relationships with teams and agencies.
  • Assist in basic experimental procedures and research, especially in DNA/RNA purification, real-time PCR, and sample preparation.
  • Follow safety protocols, laboratory procedures, and troubleshooting practices for issues in workflows, equipment, or specimen quality.
  • Initial shift is Monday–Friday, starting around 1:30 PM for training; may shift to daytime or occasional Saturday coverage depending on lab needs.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

  • BS MT (CLS) certification or equivalent preferred
  • Bachelors degree in biology is acceptable
  • Accredited clinical laboratory training program in laboratory science
  • Minimum of three (3) years in a clinical diagnostic laboratory environment
  • Strong Experience in performing Molecular based testing and Serology testing required
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written

Preferred Experience

  • Real-time PCR, serology testing, qPCR, DNA/RNA extraction, instrument operation (e.g., COBAS, Ortho 3600), moderate/high complexity testing
  • Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), statistical software, data interpretation tools
  • Prior experience in diagnostic laboratory settings strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with CLIA, CAP, and FDA compliance requirements

  • Follow current disease management protocols and clinical guidelines outlined in HFHC policy to enhance clinical performance.
  • Conducts physical assessments using observation, inspection, auscultation, palpation, and percussion, orders/tests, analyzes, and interprets diagnostic images to evaluate the patient's condition, and prescribes medications and therapies for treatment and preventive care.
  • Ensure appropriate medical management of acute and chronic conditions as indicated by outcomes on Quality Measures Performance, and other relevant reports (peer reviews, any focused reviews, and patient satisfaction surveys). Ensure timely completion of required documentation and assigned tasks according to HFHC policies and procedures, including documents, progress notes, telephone encounters, labs, medication refills, referrals, and other necessary tasks.
  • Provide required information and signatures for participation in reimbursement arrangements, including Medicare, Medicaid, and other plans. Maintain an updated CAQH profile and complete attestations every 90 days.
  • Report relevant information or situations affecting patient care or HFHC liability to the Medical Director and/or CMO, as necessary.
  • Serve as a resource for medical and operations support staff.
  • Complete all required training courses (Compliatric courses) on time and maintain proper certification.
  • Participate in Peer Review and Quality Assurance activities as requested.
  • Always maintain a proper and professional appearance.
  • Submits necessary information to the Health Department in accordance with state law regarding communicable diseases.
  • Establish collaborative agreements protocols with APRNs and PAs within the same specialty.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Occasional driving for external appointments and meetings.
  • Requires continuous use of corrected vision, depth perception, wide field of vision, and color recognition. The role also involves ongoing use of olfactory, auditory, and tactile senses.
