Vice President of Engineering
Draftech International
miami, fl
Compensation: 180.000 - 260.000

Draftech is a telecom engineering and infrastructure services firm supporting carriers, ISPs, and broadband providers with OSP/fiber and wireless-related engineering. We’re building the organizational backbone to support larger, more complex multi-market programs—and we’re looking for a senior engineering leader to help shape that future.

Role Description

The Vice President of Engineering is a full-time leadership role with a strong preference for onsite presence in the Miami–Fort Lauderdale area. Hybrid or remote arrangements within the US may be considered for exceptional candidates who can maintain a high level of visibility and engagement with the team. This role oversees engineering strategy, execution, and quality across telecom and OSP projects, ensuring alignment with company goals and client requirements.

You will architect and lead Draftech’s OSP/fiber engineering organization as we scale into larger, more complex carrier and broadband programs. This role is primarily organizational and strategic: you will design the structure, processes, and organizational infrastructure of the engineering function and help position Draftech for bigger opportunities with Tier 1 carriers, ISPs, and infrastructure partners. You’ll collaborate closely with product, operations, and project teams to prioritize initiatives, manage resource allocation, and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery, while also engaging with key clients, assessing emerging technologies and tools, and supporting business development through technical expertise and scalable engineering solutions.

What You’ll Do

  • Define the future-state OSP engineering organization (org design, roles, career paths) and the supporting infrastructure needed to deliver consistently across multiple clients and markets.
  • Build and institutionalize standards, workflows, and QA/QC processes, along with the systems, documentation, and governance required to operate at scale.
  • Lead and mentor a distributed OSP/fiber engineering team (onshore and offshore), including engineering leaders and managers, and develop the next generation of technical leadership.
  • Establish KPIs for engineering (quality, throughput, utilization, cycle time) and create reporting and review mechanisms that make performance visible and actionable.
  • Design and refine how engineering interfaces with permitting, project management, construction, and product/operations so Draftech operates as one integrated delivery engine.
  • Implement scalable processes for onboarding, training, and knowledge management so new markets and clients can be absorbed without straining delivery.
  • Oversee adoption and optimization of design tools and platforms (AutoCAD, ArcGIS/other GIS, Google Earth, etc.) and embed them into standardized workflows.
  • Partner with executive leadership and sales to shape Draftech’s technical value proposition and align engineering capabilities and organizational infrastructure with our growth strategy.
  • Engage with key clients as a senior technical and organizational leader, helping shape solutions and ensuring engineering delivery meets or exceeds expectations.
  • Assess emerging technologies, tools, and methods that can improve our engineering efficiency, quality, and scalability, and drive thoughtful adoption across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Strong engineering management and team leadership skills, with experience guiding multi-disciplinary engineering organizations.
  • Extensive background in telecom, fiber, or broadband infrastructure engineering, ideally including OSP/FTTH environments.
  • 10+ years in telecom OSP / fiber engineering with a strong track record of leading engineering organizations, not just individual projects.
  • 5+ years at Director/VP level or equivalent, responsible for organizational design and the supporting infrastructure (processes, systems, metrics, governance) of an engineering function.
  • Proven ability to define engineering strategy, set technical standards, and implement process improvements at scale.
  • Demonstrated project management capabilities, including planning, risk management, and delivery of complex, multi-site engineering initiatives.
  • Experience designing and implementing scalable engineering operating models: clear roles and career paths, standardized workflows, QA/QC programs, and performance management frameworks.
  • Proficiency in modern engineering and product development practices, including use of contemporary tooling and workflows; experience with platforms such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS or similar GIS tools, and related OSP design systems is a strong advantage.
  • Proven ability to integrate tools and platforms (CAD, GIS, project/PM systems, documentation repositories) into cohesive, repeatable workflows that improve quality and throughput.
  • Experience leading large or rapidly scaling engineering teams (ideally 100+ or multi-location), including offshore/remote resources, and integrating them into a unified delivery model.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with strong executive presence and comfort operating as part of a senior leadership team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • PE license (civil, structural, or related) is a plus, as is experience spanning both fiber OSP and wireless backhaul/transport.

What We Offer

  • Executive role with ownership of Draftech’s OSP engineering organization and direct influence over how we grow.
  • Competitive executive compensation with performance-based incentives tied to delivery quality, scalability, and contribution to growth.
  • Opportunity to build a modern, industry-respected engineering organization that serves Tier 1 carriers, ISPs, and broadband providers.
  • On-site leadership presence in the Miami–Fort Lauderdale area with a team focused on building something bigger than the sum of its parts.

Compensation

  • We offer a competitive and well-structured compensation plan, including performance-based incentives.

We build robotic spacecraft that enable dynamic space operations, creating a future where maneuvering, upgrading, refueling, and exploration are as routine as they are on Earth. Getting to space and overcoming the gravity well is only half the story. What you do there is the future. We are not building the trains. We are building the machines that lay down the tracks. By developing the foundational capabilities that make sustained, responsive operations possible, we enable a new era of space activity that strengthens national security and ensures freedom of action in an increasingly contested domain.

Katalyst Culture

Working at Katalyst is intense, hands‑on, and deeply rewarding. You’ll take real ownership and see your work move from concept to operations in an environment where the problems are hard and the impact is real. We value humility, craftsmanship, and doing things the right way, even when it’s harder. You’ll work closely with thoughtful, driven teammates who push each other to do their best.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and maintain a unified HW/SW product strategy connecting Katalyst software and hardware offerings to company priorities, customer needs, and defense requirements.
  • Own, publish, and continuously refine an integrated, cross‑product roadmap that aligns software, hardware, and defense‑focused initiatives with clear timelines, dependencies, and delivery milestones.
  • Drive product consolidation and positioning by transforming loosely defined software and defense capabilities into clearly positioned products with defined requirements, timelines, and go‑to‑market narratives, in close coordination with engineering, marketing, and leadership.
  • Create and own market requirements for each product in the HW/SW portfolio.
  • Build feature‑level business cases tied to customer value and company priorities.
  • Partner with engineering to assess system architecture and technical feasibility.
  • Implement a stage‑gate process to ensure sales and BD opportunities align with product maturity and technical baselines.
  • Ensure sales and BD teams have accurate product materials to engage customers effectively.
  • Manage and mentor product managers aligned to individual products and their activities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Technical depth and fluency: You have systems‑level technical fluency in SW and HW architectures: data systems, spacecraft HW constraints, and their integration, and a strong ability to architect products, evaluating feasibility and translating that into product decisions, roadmaps, and priorities.
  • Ability to operate in ambiguity: You have the ability to take unstructured, incomplete problem spaces and create clarity, direction, and momentum.
  • Execution leadership: You can drive product execution, alignment, and delivery across engineering, leadership, and stakeholders, owning outcomes, timelines, and quality in a resource‑constrained environment.
  • Customer POV and value proposition: You have a strong understanding of who the buyers are, how government and commercial customers evaluate and procure technology, and how to translate technical capabilities into clear value propositions, product positioning, and GTM alignment.

Your Ideal Background

  • Product‑minded with a strong understanding of market value propositions combined with technical fluency in space systems design.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Product Manager (or equivalent) owning technically complex, hardware‑enabled products; senior product management experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated hardware product expertise, including direct ownership of product definition, delivery, and lifecycle decisions.
  • Experience working with hardware products, preferably in deep‑tech industries such as robotics, aerospace, energy, or other advanced technology sectors.
  • Experience leading and managing product teams, with accountability for product outcomes and cross‑functional coordination.
  • Experience owning upstream product and marketing, including customer discovery, demand signals, and visibility into the customer pipeline.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of integrated technologies and driving new product development (not sustainment‑only work).
  • Background in space operations or technical engineering is desired.
  • Ideally, an engineer who transitioned into product management and brings deep technical credibility to product decisions.

Additional Requirements

Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed.

Compensation and Benefits

Your base salary will be determined on a case‑by‑case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job‑related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. The anticipated salary range for this role is $190,000 - $210,000 annually.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at Katalyst. You will also be eligible for long‑term incentives, in the form of the Employee Stock Option and Equity Plan, as well as a relocation bonus and other discretionary bonuses. You will also receive access to comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, and unlimited Paid Time Off.

Equal Employment Opportunity

We are committed to equal employment opportunities and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.

ITAR Compliance

At Katalyst, our work on projects involving the U.S. Department of Defense requires adherence to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), 22 C.F.R. Parts 120-130, which requires compliance with U.S. export laws before allowing employees to perform certain positions. Currently, our available roles necessitate access to ITAR‑controlled information, and as a result, Katalyst would have to ensure any non‑U.S. person is authorized access to ITAR information before the commencement of employment. Due to contractual requirements associated with U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
