All (Pulmonologist) who are granted privileges to provide, deliver and/or interpret are hereby granted the following core privileges:

  • The Pulmonologist is responsible for patient care, patient/family education and participation in any indicated clinical research in pulmonary medicine. The pulmonologist provides comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of pulmonary medicine/sleep spectrum as noted in privileges granted. The Scope of these activities covers all phases of ambulatory care. Other responsibilities may include education of medical students and residents and/or supervision of other providers. Most of the pulmonologist s time is devoted to patient care and education, with the remaining time set aside for performance improvement activities, creative research to improve patient care, activities sufficient to maintain proficiency in state-of-the-art pulmonary care. Care will be provided to the Amarillo VA Healthcare System, physical duty location is the Amarillo, TX.
  • 2. Documents care provided in the computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) in accordance with Amarillo VA Health Care System requirement.
  • Documents the detailed, targeted, initial history and physical examination required for evaluation in the electronic tools(s) required by VA.
  • Obtains consent and documents procedures performed for which the pulmonary specialist is responsible. Provides education and counseling of patients and families in preventative care, medical conditions, and the use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
  • Review and revise policies and scope of practice/standards of operation to meet the needs of the National VA and Amarillo VA Health Care System mandates.
  • Review and guide protocols in chronic patient managements including coordinating efforts with prosthetics department to meet patient s needs and maintain fiscal responsibility.

Our Physician Provider will be based out of the main outpatient clinic, as we provide the best whole-health care for veterans in an outpatient setting! The patient pool for our Primary Care Physician is 1200 assigned veterans with an allotted daily patient load of 13-totaling 30-hours a week dedicated to face-to-face care.

The Western Branch Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (WBCBOC) is scheduled to open in April of 2025. Those hired for these positions will be required to work at the VA Medical Center or one of the other CBOCs (management determination based on need) until the WBCBOC opens. Our Acute Care Surgery team is focused on bringing surgical care to the underserved rural communities of Delano and Tehachapi.
Emergency On-Call and Clinic Duties:

  • Modeled on a schedule that is generally 7 days on and 7 days off. Distance travel between hospitals is variable and expected with Bakersfield as the flagship hospital.
    • Be available for weekly shift duties including daily rounding on inpatients, responding to ER/inpatient consults, providing indicated surgical intervention, triaging outpatient clinic questions, and clinic coverage.
    • Efficiently manage emergency general surgery consults in a collaborative manner.
    • Provide standard of care for all perioperative issues
    • Communicate effectively to ensure continuity of care with coverage transitions between surgeons
    • Conduct General Surgery clinic visits two days per shift week for post-operative follow-ups and new patients specifically in Delano and Tehachapi: in an effort to provide general surgical services in rural communities
