Job Description

This is a multifaceted role that combines outpatient pulmonary medicine, inpatient critical care, and consultative services. The successful candidate will join an established team of three physicians providing specialized pulmonary and critical care services to a diverse patient population in the Tri-Valley area.

Key Responsibilities

  • 36 patient contact hours per week (full-time)
  • Outpatient pulmonary medicine at clinics in Pleasanton (primary) and Livermore (secondary)
  • Inpatient ICU/Critical Care Medicine at Stanford Tri-Valley Hospital
  • Inpatient pulmonary consultation service
  • Interpretation of pulmonary function tests (PFTs)
  • ICU coverage (6-8 weeks annually, scheduled in 1-week blocks)
  • ICU night shifts (1.5 per month) and swing shifts (1-2 per month)
  • Call schedule: 1:3 rotation for Pulmonary coverage

The position offers a typical outpatient volume of 14-16 patients per day. You'll work closely with Stanford University School of Medicine Faculty physicians in a collaborative environment. There are also teaching opportunities available with Stanford Critical Care Fellows and Family Medicine Residents, with potential for an academic appointment.

Compensation and Benefits

Primary Responsibilities

  • Counsel patients and families regarding candidacy, expectations, and outcomes for cochlear implants and other implantable hearing technologies.
  • Dispense, fit, and adjust hearing aids and related assistive listening devices, including verification and validation measures.

Work Environment

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to join our private Gastroenterology clinic. The ideal candidate will work closely with our gastroenterologists and healthcare team to provide high-quality patient care, diagnose, and treat various gastrointestinal disorders, and support the overall management of our clinic. The role requires excellent clinical skills, strong communication abilities, and a compassionate approach to patient care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history, physical examinations, and review of diagnostic tests to identify gastrointestinal conditions and develop appropriate treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with gastroenterologists and other healthcare professionals to diagnose and manage patients with gastrointestinal disorders, including but not limited to inflammatory bowel disease, liver diseases, pancreatitis, and gastrointestinal cancers.
  • Prescribe and administer medications, including therapeutic agents, antibiotics, and pain management drugs, in accordance with clinic protocols and state regulations.
  • Order labs, tests, imaging, and procedures that will aid in the diagnosis of the patient.Will seek out the input of other professionals (Supervising MD’s) or other colleagues, to best interpret any results. The information and conversations will be duly entered into the patients’ chart.
  • Educate patients and their families about gastrointestinal conditions, treatment options, and preventive measures, ensuring they have a clear understanding of their healthcare plans.
  • Monitor patients' progress, conduct follow-up visits, and adjust treatment plans as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes and patient satisfaction.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical histories, treatment plans, and progress notes, using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Assist in the coordination of care by facilitating referrals to other healthcare providers and specialists, as needed.
  • Contribute to the clinic's quality improvement initiatives, including participation in clinical audits, patient satisfaction surveys, and implementation of evidence-based practices.
  • Stay current with advancements in gastroenterology and related fields through continuous professional development activities, such as attending conferences, workshops, and educational programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience in ER or internal medicine.
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Must have an active: Colorado license, DEA Registration, and Colorado Board Certification
  • Proven experience working in a gastroenterology clinic or a related setting, with a solid understanding of gastrointestinal disorders, diagnostic tests, and treatment modalities.
  • Intermediate/Advance computer skills in software related to Practice Activities, Word, Excel and medical specialty products, (Intergy preferred). Excellent interpersonal skills, team player, able to interact effectively with other staff members to achieve organizational mission in a teamwork spirit and environment.

  • Clinical providers are guided through a web-based examination form in a proprietary online portal to capture patient information throughout the exam. Qualified candidates must be actively licensed and able to work independently and as part of a team, have good interpersonal skills and a willingness to be flexible and adapt to changing situations. Candidates must possess basic computer skills.
  • These examinations enable Veterans with service-related health conditions to access benefits specific to their needs.
  • Perform related duties as needed.
